The kick-starter of this all is my burn-out. Mid January of 2026 I became sick and spend a lot of time at home. When April that year came around I was getting a bit better but also very bored. I needed to spend my time on something that didn’t put any pressure on me and I enjoyed doing. I’m a tech guy after all so doing something with my computer again was not a far reach. Gaming is fun but spending all my time gaming didn’t feel good, besides, learning while executing a hobby is a win-win in my book!
Linux was getting more and more coverage in the Tech World for gaming and after years of not using Linux anymore thought by myself, why not give it another shot. It started with Dual Booting my Gaming Laptop with CachyOS.
This all kick-started more and more projects for me to do but without any pressure, and more importantly, always a way back. As is my pitfall, when my brain gets going there is a lot going on at the same time. Just remember: Rome was not build in a week and these projects also took a lot of time, many weeks and months.
I always fancied having a homelab and tinkering is what I always loved. But until my Burn-out never took the time for or had the energy to do so.
Some of the projects that got kickstarted and I might write about could be the following:
Ditching Windows (for the most part) and switching to Linux..
Leaving MS365 Personal behind and moving to Protonmail..
turning a old laptop in a Proxmox Host
Installing my first VM
installing multiple VM’s with multiple use cases.
Running out of space
Thinking about backups
Rebuilding the home Network
Adding more compute Node(s)
I try to write most of these posts with the tech in mind, and for keeping my own journey documented as there are a lot of stories and changes to be told and keeping track off. My goals are small and big at the same time but without any external pressure:
